Jacob Perkins - Speed skiing, engineering and mindset.
Episode Summary: Like all high level sport speed skiing is about failure, rectification, incremental gains and constant evolution. It’s an extremely tough sport mentally and physically – you know you'll have crashes but you have to have a long-term vision and know where you’re tying to go.
You have to put goals in place that are incremental – you’re not going to get to your end goal of skiing at 200 kms an hour on your first run but you can set goals to get towards it and look at it with a long term perspective.

This week, I present the first pro-athlete guest of the season. Jacob Perkins is a pro-skier that participates in the outlier discipline of speed skiing. I'll openly admit that I don't know anything about the discipline, though I have seen it once or twice on television. But one of the main reasons I have the podcast is to learn about new things. In this episode, Jacob talks about speed skiing and his own experiences racing at speeds that some of us will never hit on skis. It's an interesting interview with a bit of fun thrown in here & there, with a pinch of six-grade humor later in the episode. I'm sure you'll know it when you hear it. Plus, I point it out.
In this week's episode, I'm joined by Jacob Perkins.
Jacob is a FIS World Cup Speed Skier and the Manufacturing Engineering Team Lead of Amatrol Inc.
Here, he talks about the vital role that accountability has played in his quest to become one of the world's top Speed Skiers; how SMART goals have proven to be such a valuable tool; and why having a supportive team and employer can help massively when the skiing season comes around.
